Industry pathways to net zero: mobile and digital technology in support of industry decarbonisation

The use of mobile and digital technology is a key enabler of the decarbonisation transition. Telecoms operators, vendors and supporting ecosystem partners play a key role in the move to digital and low-carbon economies.

In this report, we outline a high-level quantification of decarbonisation and associated strategies for four key industries that account for 80% of global emissions – manufacturing, power and energy, transport, and buildings. We also provide a set of forward-looking implications. The research demonstrates the clear, practical and beneficial impact of using mobile and digital technologies in the largest and most relied upon industries.

In addition to this main report, GSMA Intelligence will be releasing a series of industry-specific case studies that detail the strategies for implementing mobile and digital technologies to support decarbonisation.

Alongside this research, GSMA Intelligence has released The essential role of AI in improving energy efficiency in partnership with Nokia. Both reports have significance for the telecoms ecosystem and enterprise customer segments in understanding the value of mobile and digital technology in transitioning towards a sustainable future and ultimately net zero.
